Countries around the world have had different responses on handling the Covid-19 pandemic. The most hard-hit country with the most confirmed cases and deaths in the United States. The United States government has allowed the governor of each state to take the reins on handling the response to the virus pertaining to their own population. As a result, each state has different mandates on handling the virus, however, it was confirmed during the month of April 94% of the United States was under some sort of stay at home order. While these orders did take place, many essential businesses remained open, and people were allowed to go grocery shopping and leave their houses for other essential needs. As the amount of cases begins to stabilize in the United States some governors have ordered for their states to be opened and their stay at home orders to be lifted, while others have decided to keep their states closed until the end of May. This has had a great impact on the economy of the United States, and so the government has elected to help each taxpayer that makes less than $100,000 USD annually with a stipend of $1,200 in hopes of boosting the economy,
Other countries have taken different routes in fighting the virus. Some have retained more strict laws while others have remained open such as the country of Sweden. The country of Sweden is experimenting with the idea of herd immunity. Herd immunity is the idea that if enough members of a population catch the virus, and build immunity to it then there will be a general immunity to the virus in the population. Sweden has seen an influx of cases compared to their neighbors such as Denmark who is now opening their country, but they believe that this will diminish the chances of a second wave that threatens other countries.
Regardless of the approaches of different governments throughout the world, one thing the scientific community of each country can agree on is that without a treatment or vaccine life will not return to what most would consider normal. Many agree that while we can contain the virus, it will continue to be a threat without proper treatment or vaccine, and the world may see more lockdowns such as the ones occurring right now periodically.
